Indications

  • Treatment of metastasis prostate cancer.
  • Adjunctive treatment for external radiation therapy in locally advanced prostate cancer (T3 -T4 stage of the TNM classification or stage C of the AUA classification).

Mechanism of Action

Pharmacotherapeutic group

HORMONE ANALOGUE ENTRAINING GONadotrophin LIBERATION, ATC code: L02AE03 Goséréline is a natural HL-HR analogue agonist synthetic decapeptide.

Chronic administration of goséréline acetate results in a significant reduction in pituitary HL levels and plasma testosterone at the level usually observed in men who have undergone surgical castration, which is maintained throughout the duration of treatment.

In humans, upon initiation of treatment with goséréline acetate, initial stimulation of LH secretion results in a transient increase in plasma testosterone.

However, approximately three weeks after the first injection, the plasma concentration of testosterone returns to castration and remains at that level with treatment administered every three months.

If, as an exceptional measure, the injection renewal did not occur at three months, studies have shown that testosterone concentrations were kept below the castration threshold for up to 85% of patients.
