Mechanism of Action

Mechanism of action

Epidermal growth factor (EGF, Epidermal Growth Factor) and its receptor (EGFR ) have been identified as important factors in the process of cell growth and proliferation of normal and cancerous cells.

EGFR activation mutation in a cancer cell is an important factor in tumour cell growth: blocking apoptosis, increasing the production of angiogenic factors and facilitating metastasis processes.

Gefitinib is a small selective inhibitory molecule of epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase.

Getifinib is effective in tumours with activating mutations of EGFR tyrosine kinase, regardless of the treatment line.

No significant clinical activity has been shown in patients with EGFR mutation-free tumours.
