Acetylsalicylic acid

Mechanism of action Acetylsalicylic acid belongs to the group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) with analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Its mechanism of action is based on irreversible inhibition of the cyclo-oxygenase enzymes involved in prostaglandin synthesis.

Acetylsalicylic acid also inhibits platelet aggregation by blocking platelet synthesis of thromboxane A2.
