Mechanism of Action

Mechanism of action

In oligotherapy, lithium, mineral element trace has an action on the nervous system.

In psychiatry, lithium is a normothymic (mood regulator).

In dermatology, the mechanisms of action of lithium in the treatment of seborrheic dermatism are incomplete.

In vitro data show that lithium presents: An antifungal action on Massezia furfur, which is related to lithium inhibition of free fatty acid production from membrane phospholipids.

Anti-inflammatory activity, on the one hand, by reducing the production of leucotrienes and prostaglandins by blocking free fatty acids, including arachidonic acid, and on the other hand, by increasing the production of interleukin and by decreasing the expression of Toll Like Receptors TLR2 and TLR4 keratinocytaires by means of innate immunity.

However, it is not clearly demonstrated that the TLR2 increase and the TLR2 decrease in metabolic changes (reverse and TLR2 effect).

Adverse Effects

Kidney cancer of the collecting tube Lichenoid reaction Asthenia Vomiting Nausea Diarrhoea Trembling of the ends Renal oncocytoma Renal microkyst.
