Mechanism of Action
Mechanism of action
Salbutamol is a beta-adrenergic receptor agonist with much more selective action on beta-2 receptors.
In pneumonology, after inhalation, salbutamol exerts a stimulating action on beta-2 receptors of smooth bronchial muscle, thus ensuring rapid, significant bronchodilation in a few minutes, and persistent for 4-6 hours.
In gynaecology, at the usual therapeutic doses, salbutamol exerts a stimulating action on beta-2 receptors of uterine smooth fibres.
It reduces the amplitude, frequency and duration of uterine contractions.
