Child under 15 years of age Pregnancy Hypovolaemia Mild to moderate hepatic impairment Mild to moderate renal impairment Pneumopathy Adverse reaction after administration of sulfasalazine, history.
Mechanism of Action
Mechanism of action It has been shown that patients with HCH most at risk of developing colorectal cancer are those with an older colitis (more than eight years of evolution), extended colitis lesions (to or greater than the left colon), a primary sclerotic cholangitis associated with or a family history at the first level of colic cancer.
A meta-analysis of 9 observational studies (3 cohort studies and 6 case-control studies), including 334 cases of colorectal cancer and 140 cases of dysplasia for a total of 1932 patients with HCH, showed that the risk of colorectal cancer was approximately 50% lower in patients taking 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) on a regular basis than in those taking or not taking 5-ASA.
The reduction of the risk of colorectal cancer by 5-ASA, if confirmed, would involve both mechanisms related to the anti-inflammatory properties and intrinsic antitumor properties of the molecule.
