Indications

  • in patients not adequately controlled by metformin alone at the maximum tolerated dose or in patients already treated with Sitagliptin/Metformin.
  • in combination with a sulphonylurea (tritherapy) when maximum tolerated doses of metformin and sulphonamide do not provide adequate blood glucose control.
  • in tritherapy with a gamma peroxisome proliferation receptor agonist (PPAR g ) (thiazolidinedione), when maximum tolerated doses of metformin and PPAR g receptor agonist do not provide adequate blood glucose control.
  • in addition to insulin (tritherapy) when insulin and metformin alone, at stable doses, do not provide adequate blood glucose control.

Mechanism of Action

Pharmacotherapeutic group

Drugs used in diabetes, Oral hypoglycemic agents combinations, ATC code: A10BD07.

Sitagliptin/Metformin combines two antihyperglycemic drugs with complementary mechanisms of action to improve glycaemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes: sitagliptin (as hydrochloride monohydrate), an oral-active dipeptidylpeptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitor and metformin hydrochloride, a biguanid.

Sitagliptin Action mechanism

Sitagliptin is a potent and highly selective inhibitor of the enzyme dipeptidylpeptidase 4 (DPP-4), an oral-active diabetic inhibitor, indicated in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, low-level enzyme-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-reactive-re.
